I was driving home from Micro Center in Westbury today and the entrance to the Southbound Meadowbrook Parkway was closed. So instead I take a detour to Eisnehower Park to cut through to Hempstead Turnpike. I was in for a not so pleasant surprise, there was a $5 per vehicle fee to use the park. This fee is for non-Nassau County residents, valided by your photo ID. I told the person at the booth that I was not using the park, I was only using the road to get to Hempstead Turnpike. She said that I would still have to pay the $5.00 vehicle fee, or I can make a U-Turn and leave the park property. I think it's crazy enough to charge for use of a public park, let alone charge someone for just driving through to get to the main road. Additionally, Cantiague Park in Hicksville, Cedar Creek in Seaford, Christopher Morley in Roslyn-North Hills, North Woodmere in North Woodmere, and Wantagh Park in Wantagh will also charge non-residents a fee. These fees are in effect on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays from 8am to 4pm, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Comments () |
